What the results mean

Different page is returned when one normalized organic URL exists but differs from the normalized paid URL. Splitting is returned when two or more distinct organic URLs appear for the exact normalized query. No organic presence means no GSC page row matched that query. The action field is a review direction, not an automatic redirect or campaign recommendation.

How it works

For each Ads row with a Final URL, the engine normalizes its search term and finds GSC rows with the same normalized query. It deduplicates normalized organic URLs, then applies the three rules above. URL normalization removes superficial URL variation, while query matching remains deliberately exact after normalization.

This beginner walkthrough combines fictional Google Ads and Search Console exports, explains all three mismatch types, demonstrates the live analysis and export, and shows why a URL difference is a prompt to inspect the pages—not proof that either page is wrong.

Step 1

The Landing-Page Mismatch Finder compares the page used by a search ad with the pages that appear in unpaid, or organic, search for the same supplied query. It returns three clear review queues: paid and organic use different pages, organic search reports multiple pages, or the paid term has no matched organic page in the file.

Step 2

A search term is what triggered the ad. Final U-R-L is the page the ad sends a visitor to. Google Search Console, shortened to G-S-C, reports organic queries and pages. A query is the wording people searched. A page-by-query export connects that wording to the U-R-L Google reported, along with clicks, impressions, and average position.

Step 3

Use the tool to find paid and organic destination disagreements, investigate queries connected to several organic pages, spot paid terms with no matched organic page, ignore harmless U-R-L formatting differences, or export a shared page-review queue. Every result is a question to investigate—not an automatic redirect, canonical, content, or campaign recommendation.

Step 4

Paste the Ads table first with Search term and Final U-R-L. Add a line containing three hyphens. Then paste the G-S-C table with Query, Page, Clicks, Impressions, and Position. You can also choose two local files in that order. Use comparable dates, country, device, and search scope. The comparison stays in this browser.

Step 5

This fictional fixture is designed to show every outcome. Trail shoes sends paid and organic visitors to different pages. Shoe size guide has two organic pages. Waterproof running shoes has no G-S-C row. Running shoe care uses the same real page in both channels, but the ad U-R-L adds a tracking parameter and a trailing slash. These are teaching values, not account data.

Step 6

Select Analyze. The engine simplifies capitalization, spacing, punctuation, and accents in each query, then finds exact normalized matches in G-S-C. It also removes harmless protocol, W-W-W, tracking-parameter, and trailing-slash differences from U-R-L comparison. Three finding cards remain because the aligned running-shoe-care pair is intentionally omitted.

Step 7

Each card keeps the query, paid U-R-L, observed organic U-R-Ls, mismatch type, and a plain-language review direction together. Clicks, impressions, and average position document the imported organic rows, but they do not decide which destination is better. Aligned pairs are left out so the queue contains only mismatches.

Step 8

Trail shoes is Different Page because the paid U-R-L ends in mens slash trail while the single organic U-R-L ends in trail shoes. The suggested action is to test the organic page as a paid destination. That is only a review direction. Compare search intent, products, conversion path, audience, and experiment risk before changing the ad.

Step 9

Shoe size guide is Splitting because two distinct organic U-R-Ls appear for the exact normalized query: size guide and help slash sizing. Splitting does not automatically mean cannibalization. The pages may compete, alternate across time or devices, or serve different intent. Inspect both pages and query history before consolidating or differentiating anything.

Step 10

Waterproof running shoes is No Organic Presence because the paid term has no exact normalized query-and-page row in the supplied G-S-C file. Investigate indexation and intent coverage, but do not assume the paid page cannot rank. Privacy thresholds, filters, date range, country, device, or different query wording can also explain the missing row.

Step 11

Running shoe care is absent because its paid and organic U-R-Ls normalize to the same page. The comparison ignores protocol, W-W-W, tracking parameters, and trailing slashes, while keeping non-tracking parameters that may identify genuinely different content. Omission means this pair aligned under those rules; it does not assess the page itself.

Normalized query means superficial text differences are removed before comparison. Matching is still deliberately exact after that cleanup. The tool does not understand synonyms or meaning. A differently worded Ads term and G-S-C query can remain unmatched even when a person sees related intent. Review important absences and close variants manually.
